I'm quite hesitant on selling my 1st gen Iphone and getting the new 3G because of unlocking capability's. I like using my Iphone under ATT, but not buying into the Iphone plan.

    Your opinions are appreciated.

I don't understand what you're asking. If you're on AT&T the phone doesn't need to be unlocked... only jailbroken. And let me understand, you have an iPhone on AT&T now but are NOT on an iPhone plan? There is no way to predict how long it's going to take for the new firmware to be jailbroken or how long it will take to crack the new bootloader on the 3G phones for unlocking.

Actually, I havent been on here for a while and didn't know if you had some inside information on cracking these phones already. Anyways, another question I do not know, nor did the Att guy know is do we have to be eligible for an upgrade to get the 3g for 199?

Unless you're all gung-ho for 3G and GPS, there's no need to sell your 1st gen. Remember, the software is going to be updated for both generations, not just the 3G's.

So the speed is going to be increased for both?

No. 3G is hardware, not software. I meant both 1st and 2nd generation will be using firmware 2.0 (1.2)
