Ok, I know this has been discussed before, I'm just bringing up the subject again because I can't seem to find any definitive answers. One guy even said that he was in S. Korea for a day and his didn't work, but did he have it setup right? Did he have the right SIM card?

I've heard that the current iPhones won't work due the WCDMA data networking that they use and iPhone uses GSM. But, I know from living there that lots of people have old cell phones which probably use old systems, possibly GSM 2G or 3G, so is it possible that the iPhone could tap into that old throwback system there?

Also, would it be worth taking one there to use everything but the phone, like wi-fi, games etc...would all that still work without a carrier?

    Any thoughts or ideas? thanks
