I'm going to the Apple store to get my 3G repaired. The silent on/off button broke off. My question is, my phone is jailbroken, will that make a difference?

    Yeah, i pretty sure.
Restore back to factory settings, because jailbreaking voids your warrenty, so be safe just restore via itunes.

Ya, I'd rather not have to redo the jailbreaking process and gett it back to how I have it now

if they get it and its jailbroken it voids your warranty and you are pretty much screwed on getting it repaired so its either do the repair yourself and keep the phone the way it is or restore back to the factory settings and get it fixed by them. thats a choice you have to make. personally it takes me one night to get my phone back into shape after a restore and thats worth it to have my phone get fixed. just my personal opinion

Let me put it this way. My headphone clicker stopped working and I went to the Apple Store thinking they wouldn't even need to look at the phone. They did and said they wouldn't replace my headphones because my phone was jailbroken. It sucks but restore before you go. Besides they may not want to fix it and just replace it. Then you will be in the same place anyway.

Yeah, it does take long to get everything back.
Its VERY EASY to jailbreak your phone, so just restore, and when you get back after they fix it, just rejailbreak it and get it back to normal.

Sorry to say it like this, but put it this way, if you want your phone fixed, your going to have to restore it.

    Thats the only way.

In fact they may replace your phone...so it would be best to restore it. And it will keep you from having to say you need to go home and back it up before they let you exchange it out for a replacement.

So I called the Apple Store, told them I have a hardware issue, but my phone is jailbroken. The guy said "we should" be able to take care of it because it is not a software issue.

I'm going there shortly, so we'll see what happens. I'll let you know.

STRESS to them the issue is HARDWARE and not software.....thus voiding the fact that it is jailbroken....and you should be fine.

I have done it before, they cant argue.

Hopefully they don't just enter your imei as a known jailbreaker and refuse warranty services from now on.

Lol, well it is COMPLETLY hardware, the button fell off. I don't have a app that can cause that.

I doubt it....usually those guys are pretty cool. I've had em clammering over my themes, etc. a few different times

The only thing I've noticed that they get real anal about....is water damage.

So I went to the Apple Store and when the guy noticed it was jailbroken, I told him that I had called earlier and they said it was no problem. He brought up my warrenty, I signed some stuff and walked away with new phone.

Now, I'm having to restore everything anyway. But no issues because it was jailbroken.
