My stupid brother disabled my iPhone by constantly trying to enter the pass code and now it's disabled. Now, I REALLY need the photos and contacts in it, as I haven't synced in months. Is there ANYTHING to preserve my data? iTunes won't let me use it at all. I do know the original pass code.

Please help me get his working.

As much as I love me some MMI, these types of "stock" questions can easily be found in search at apple.com in their forums and knowledge base.
Iíve been here almost 12 years, 10k posts, 1100 thanks. I donít need post approval.

I looked, but everyone said a restore needed to be done. I was wondering if there was anything else I could do.

I'll give you a trick. The passcode is kept in a config file which is stored at mnt/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist.
Then you should search it on google, what happens next...

But I don't think I can SSH into the iPhone.

I suggest you have a "talk" with your brother. I mean he actually sat there for a good 4 hours disabling your iphone.

A google search for "disabled iphone" led to the apple website (as one had informed you), which then yielded the following:

"If you enter the wrong passcode too many times, you'll see a message that says "iPhone is disabled" and to try again later:

Note: The screen on iPod touch will read as "iPod is disabled."

If you repeatedly enter the wrong passcode, iPhone or iPod touch will be disabled for longer intervals, before you can try again. After too many unsuccessful attempts, you won't be able to try again until you connect to the computer you normally sync with. Note that starting with iPhone 2.1 software, there is a setting to cause the device to erase itself after 10 consecutive incorrect password attempts. This setting is off by default. It can be turned on by tapping Settings > General > Passcode Lock after you enter a correct passcode.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device on the computer that was used to originally sync the iPhone or iPod touch so that you can reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced to the iPhone or iPod touch, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode but your data will not be present. Refer to 'Updating and restoring iPhone and iPod touch software.'"

thank you for your quick reply. I know that i need to restore it. Here is the problem, I can't put the phone into restore mode. I know how to do it, as I've done it before many times, but now that it is disabled it doesn't do anything when i hold the power button and/or the home button. I can't even shut off the iphone.

I found this link which might be helpful for some people, it isn't for me since I can't put my phone into restore mode.

Just sync your phone, and see what that does. You don't necissarily have to restore (you might but the above info just says to connect it to your computer, so I'd start with that and go from there).

Just thinking .... instead of trying, trying, trying ...... let it sit idle for awhile. The hint above said longer intervals. I have no idea what those are, but I would let it sit for at least an hour (don't touch), then try again.

Oops. Sorry to hear that. Was just trying to 'read between the lines. Hey.... maybe when the battery goes dead, run iTunes and plug in phone. Who knows it might kick it out and let you sync and get back to normal.

So I waited for the battery to die and it still wouldn't go into restore mode. But I found a solution!
If you're iphone is disabled and you can't get it to go into restore mode do this:

    goto iphuc - Google Code
    and download iphuc.
    Plug in ur iphone
Run this program and it'll open up a dos prompt
    type in: enterrecovery
or you can type in: help
    for a list of commands
this will put your iphone into restore mode.

Once it's in restore mode you can restore it with a firmware in itunes.

I restored it with 2.2 on itunes, now its just not active

I tried quickpwn, but I can't put the phone in DFU mode. I dont know??
recovery mode won't work in quickpwn, so know that I fixed the "disabled" problem I'm trying to active, and jailbrake with quickpwn, but still trying to figure out how to put it in DFU, the standard form of puting it into dfu mode (holding the buttons, etc.) isnt working. Will update once i figure it out....

    GOOD LUCK
any suggestions ?? and if u need help ask me i'll try!

....if you get a missing .dll messege just google the .dll file and download it into the same directory as the iphuc program...
