    Will a unlocked/jailbroken 3g work on Verizon's network?
I have a couple of friends that want iPhones and have Verizon.
    Is it it possible?

no. the iphone is a SIM based phone. Verizon is GSM based (non sim) therefore it cannot be done. Verizon has only ONE sim phone but the sim wont work with the iphone.

Verizon runs on a CDMA network.

The Iphone is a GSM network phone. Hence the reason the iphone takes simcards......and Verizon does not.

So no, it could never work.

Edit: Cricket, you beat me....but got the network type wrong

You guys are great. Thanks for the help. It really sucks for them to be on Verizon. I told them not to, but they didn't listen. Look what happens when you don't listen.

Verizions CDMA (actually by Qualcom) has minimal adoption outside the US plus Cell manfacturers used the newer (at the time) CDMA technology to also eliminate the SIM card --- further restricting users to jump ship without buying a new phone.
