Hi guys i'm thinking of buying a new iphone 3g in the UK. I'm worried about getting one with the new baseband. I understand the shop do not hold them in stock for too long, so supply from apple (assuming they dont go through a third party) must be quite quick therefore making my plan unlikely.

What I was wondering was this. Is there a way I can phone the shop and get them to look at manufacturer dates or serial numbers or something on the box that will give away what firmware/baseband the iphone is likely to have?

I know you can find week of production using the 4th and 5th digits of the serial number but the all important question....

At what week did the 2.2.1 firmware start coming out of the box?

yeah, so no way for the shop to tell me before I buy it. As I suspected. Anyone know what serial numbers and onwards are likely to include 2.2.1?
