A wireless USB stick is used for connecting to wireless networks, not providing the service. You would need to configure your computer to share your internet connection via WiFi.

If you have a wirless USB stick, do you have a wireless router? That's how I have my computer set up and my Wifi on my iPhone works fine

A wireless router works fine. But the sticks are used to connect to the routers, they don't act as a router. Therein lies the problem.

So your wireless USB stick broadcasts an SSID and assigns an IP? What brand and model is it?
