I will be upgrading, but I will probably wait until early July both for financial reasons and for a few of the jailbreaking kinks to be worked out.
(iBlacklist is an essential app for me)

One of my biggest complaints of late with my 3G involves app speed issues; hopefully the improved speed of the 3GS will make it run less buggy. That alone warrants a look at the upgrade for me.

I am pissed, though, about the lack of subsidized pricing for current users. I thought about calling AT&T and seeing how much it would be for me to cancel my contract (because it would be the 175 prorated cancellation fee) so that I could get the 3GS at the new customer rate.

(new customer cost) + (prorated cancellation fee) - (ebay my 3G) < (current customer cost)

If that doesn't seem viable, then I will just save up, suck it up, and hope that someone on ebay throws enough coin down for my 3G to ease the pain from the current user pricing.

It would be better to get the 3gs right away. After its been out for awhile certain exploits could be closed

I am getting 2 immediately. I haven't heard anything about the processor, but twice as fast? I'm in. I also want to get my hands on the first line of them so I lessen my chances of waiting to long after a bootloader exploit has been irradicated.

For those who have a 2G at the end of their contract it's probably worth it. Those with 3Gs have to really want it.
I'll stick with my 3G thanks

I'll upgrade when they give me an upgrade. This release.... not so much an upgrade. "Congrats, you went from the worst camera still sold in a phone to one slightly less s**tty. Already an ATT customer? Bend over please"

^ I agree. It is laughable that they act like a 3MP camera is a big deal. Way to go Apple, I had an old lg with a 3MP camera a couple years ago!

i think I am going to leave this one, if they cut us deal I would have done it just for the sake of it.

I am thinking to next year now, my provider wont let me upgrade until december '09 so that ties me into another 18 month contract but then did I read that Apple are hoping to realease an iphone every year ? which means I wouldnt stand a chance of getting the 2010 version.

I think I will just hold out and see what happens

It's not twice as fast. It went from 400MHz to 600MHz.

After reading some of the web blogs today about the new openGL stuff...I'm hoping that the 3G doesn't get forgotten about...

Dunno if I can wait another year if I can't get the apps I want...I may have to use my wife's upgrade.

iPhone 3G S supports OpenGL ES 2.0, but 3G only supports 1.1 -- will the App Store splinter?

They just over clocked it to run against what they have always done with the touch using the same processor and clock tricks for a better gaming experience since it didn't have a cellular radio in it and could afford to run hotter.

so can the 3g be over clocked?

Not if you want it to work. The touch can run faster and hotter but the iPhone couldn't cope with the heat and if it could, the battery life would be reduced even more.
The 3Gs has a processor that scales from 600 to over 1Gb and uses less power.
