I am planning on getting a bluetooth stereo headset so I can use it to workout. Does the Iphone support A2DP? Do I even need A2DP support to listen to high quality music?

    No, it doesn't support A2DP.

I use a Motorola S9 and iCombi adaptor for working out and this works great for me.

The S9s ae sweat resistanct and the design keeps them on your head well.

currently, with out buying an A2DP adapter for the dock/ headphone port, no. However, there is debate as to whether the BT Chip that is in the phone can be 'updated' via software to support A2DP and AVRCP. For now, the adapter is your best bet.
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!
