If you were using categories with jailbroken firmware 2.2 or 2.2.1 and have now upgraded to firmware 3.0 and are missing app icons the app icon is hidden follow this procedure and it should bring your icons back.

go to SETTING then GENERAL then RESTRICTIONS enable the restrictions and then disable the restrictions and that should bring back your icons for your apps!

Yay! That's what I did on my 3G. Free Memory was missing and I know I enabled restrictions once. Then Free Memory appeared again and I didn't know how. But Free Memory's been missing on my 3G S since I restored from backup and this just brought it back up!
Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?

If I helped you, be sure to press the Thanks! button over there ->
If I didn't, press it anyway.

Worked like a charm... You should charge apple for the support you offer all of US noobies...

Thanks and keep the good work.

Now waiting for the 3GS Jailbreak !!!

I've just used pwnage 3.0 to upgrade and jailbreak from 2.2.1. I have this problem but it's my Settings and Cydia icons that are missing so I can't do this fix. Any ideas??

well, you could also try settings/general/restrictions enable and then disable.

That's the issue though - I can't do this as there's no settings icon. A lot of my icons were moved because of Categories so they're hidden somewhere and I can't get Categories without the Cydia icon either.

Oh crap, I missed that sorry. hummmmmm
you may have to begin all over w/ dfu restore and re-J/B, not sure. Many people have had the same problem but still had settings to go into and fix.

I'd try and downgrade back to 2.2.1 as without being able to access Settings you could be in BIG trouble.

What model iPhone is it and what OS (Mac or PC) are you on?

    ***EDIT***

BTW, I don't think a Restore will make any difference as Categories "followed" him from 2.2.1 the first time around - my initial thinking is he's going to have to backtrack to 2.2.1, uninstall Categories, and then go back to 3.0.

Let us know your model & platform.
