Obv this is temp and it started off as a joke and ended up working pretty good...

I simply bought one roll off "invisible tape" and applied it to the band of the phone. Then I cut around the band nice and neat with a brand new razor blade. Yeah, that's it!

I can actually hold it and not loose a signal now...

wow you applied scotch tape to the latest, greatest, and most expensive mobile device on the planet?

Rather than just buying a 30$ bumper case?

I guess to each their own

as long as your skin isn't in direct contact with the phone, you'll be 100% fine.. (my iPhone 4 works 100% fine with my bluetooth and wifi off)

just think about electricity, metal, and short circuits...

Lol bro, I got my phone the 23rd via Fedex and didn't order a stupid bumper because I didn't think I NEEDED one.
I sure wasn't going to the Apple today and run around in that circus.

And with Apple just dishing them out to people who call...
I'll just gripe like everyone else and get a free one.

I shouldn't have to... But yes sir, I will get the bumper.

They could have just powder coated it and avoided all of this...

I hear you, but there are MUCH better methods than putting scotch tape onto your phone... it'll leave a nasty residue, and it will get MUCH worse once the phone starts to warm up over time.

Try turning off your bluetooth and wifi.. works fine with my i4, or just hold it in a slightly different position.

I absolutely can't stand any case being on my iPhone. Although I'm holding on getting the 4 to see if these production issues clear up, I was looking at a product like this:

Brush-on Clearneon UV Reactive Clear Coat Paint - Cosmic Glow - FrozenCPU.com

Apparently it's invisible (clear coat) under normal lighting conditions but shows up under black lights (who cares?). I'm betting any old clear coat paint would work just as well but this one specifically states it has dielectric (non-conductive) properties which is what we're trying to accomplish here.

I thought about the same thing too. When I saw clear nail polish at the store with the gf...

I wasn't about to do it though.. Lol

I really think that their quickest and most logical fix on this is to start powder coating the bands and leaving the design the way it is.

I have no other problems with this phone. It's an awesome looking phone.
