I bought and iPhone 4 with a clean esn (i checked)... in mint condition for only 200$ and i updated the firmware to ios 5 and my baseband (modem firmware) is now 3.0.03 and ive been googling the baseband and nothing pops up, is this strange?

That's a normal baseband for iOS 5 on a Verizon iPhone 4. My Verizon iPhone that I just updated to iOS 5 has that baseband.

No that isn't a weird bb I bought a brand new verizon 16 gb iPhone 4 from the store and updated to ios 5 and that's the bb I ended up with .... I was worried that I couldn't jailbreak with that bb but I did without a problem just waiting on untethered now

Just for future reference, jailbreaks are dependent on the firmware version and not the baseband.

See wiki for FW and BB details.
