So I installed a custom pwned 2.0 iphone software that someone else made, because the WinPwn software is not out yet. Cydia came pre-installed on it, and I'm now noticing that there's a lot of packages installed that may just be useless. Things like "zip, unzip, tape archive, rsync". What I'm asking is basically, are these packages installed by default, or did the creator of the custom .ipsw decide to include them in when he pwned it?

    Thanks!

DON'T delete anything...until you update Cydia. Turns out, it won't update, just a constantly re-springs.

It's called patience. I don't see you making free apps to put on Cydia.

I think the OP is just asking about the preinstalled packages in his custom firmware ipsw he got online, and not insulting the dev community.

"Are they usless" = can he uninstall them?

They all install WITH cydia.. Cydia uses them for installing packages.
Just leave them, we all have 'em.

Man, what a waste. It shows 277MBs used for OTHER files. I mean this is a CLEAN iPhone 2.0 with Cydia. I didnt install anything extra. Does this seem off and shall I re-package my 2.0FW?

That "Other" space you see is the iPhone Operating system and the Applications you have installed via the App Store. Don't think you have a big one either, mine's almost 600MB.

wow really, well no i didnt install anything from app store. Anyway just downgraded to 1.1.4. My Edge wasnt working properly. Tried everything. Used Apple enterprise config utility but nothing. Anyway, 2.0 is nice and all but i check over 200 emails a day and not having edge working 100 percent is no good for me.

On another note, is it safe to assume that the appstore apps are stored on the media partition of the harddrive since the folder they are stored in is in the var/mobile/Applications? So we wont running out of disc space on the OS partition of the harddrive unless we install alot of installer/cydia apps. Am I correct? Or no?
