I'd like to posit an idea for ya'll with more tech savy than myself. I know this may sound weird, but hear me out:

What if someone was able to port over the Phone.app and SMS.app from the iPhone to a jailbroken iPad? Think about it. You could cut down your iPhone SIM turning it into a microsim and place it in your 3G iPad and if you had the Phone.app and SMS.app you'd essentially have an iPad sized iPhone.

Now many people say "Why on Earth would I want to have a massive phone?! Wasn't that Zach from Saved by the Bell's job?"

Seriously though, if you're going to be paying for your iPhone data plan anyway, and you are going to be hauling your iPad around anyway... why not merge them?

It's an interesting thought in my opinion. Someone should look into it.

To have a cell phone, you have to have cellular hardware.....

namely a commboard with a GSM radio.

The ipad doesnt have one, because its not a phone.

So it cant be used as a phone.

Well it can't be used as a cell phone directly. You can download specific apps that would let you txt and call (such as VOIP) over the internet (which you would have everywhere because of the 3G)

Wasn't it MuscleNerd who showed us that the iPad could send native SMS through terminal? I believe this could easily work, we just need people willing to work on it.

The ipad should have cameras and phone, for business use this is no brainer.
I wonder how many versions we will have to go through before this happens.

This is why I break out in cold sweat going to Apple retail store.

    Yeah...using a data connection.

What does that have to do with a cellular connection?

It's an idea, a good one. Like the iPads phone calls could of been done via bluetooth.

But like they are saying, Lack of hardware in the iPad limits this great idea. Unless someone plays around with it and tweaks the hardware in the iPad.

Hmm,sounds like Frankenstein but I do hope someone plays around with this idea.
