Apple has always been about procedures and their aberration with security is from the early Windoze hacks, so they've always been security freaks. Then it gets to a point where, if you follow procedures, you get to do anything you want. Android (like Windows) is so open to hacks of any kind, especially from folks who really have little clue and care if your phone got bricked for the sake of "some cool whatchamacallit". They've always been anal about security. But I believe in the end, there will be access to doing anything. Unless we get to the iPhone with every widget you can want, then I wouldn't care. It was the same with Macs in the 90's, now you pretty much have everything and anything you want with a modicum of security. I used to be all "open source", then got tired of spending more time fixing machines than running them. That's the lesson Apple is based on so it is what it is.
I love my Mac and its by far less hassle than my other comps. They do a good job with security. Honestly though that's not as much because Apple is that much better. It's because they hold less than 10% of the marketshare! From a hackers perspective why bother with less than 10%? If the figures were reversed our Mac computers would be as plagued as any current windows system. So the reality is its just the lesser of two evils.

Nice convo by the way peeps. Nice to talk tech with others that love it. I respect all your perspectives cause I know here in particular they come with knowledge. Gotta jam but have a great day guys!

I'm gonna jump on this security issues bandwagon. I've ran windoze, mac os and linux and each have their vulnerabilities. Windoze is the hardest hit, cause it's the most popular platform and it is more easily compromised. Just like Android, IOS could and can be compromised by malicious apps if obtained from shady sources. I've had a windoze box that has been running for over 10 years and not one virus, just some minor malware (tracking cookies, etc..) issues. Why? Because I don't go to places that could pose an issue or install programs that are obtained from such places.

Just for the record, chill. I was writing code in the late 70's when to perform a function you had to code it yourself, so I'm not a noob. Macs can be compromised because they run the MacOS over Unix, basically. When the MacOS was it's own core, there was a competition allowing hackers of the time access without firewalls to see if you could break into a directory and read a text file to win $15,000. No one won that. Since Stevie Wonderboy came back and Apple bought the Next computer from him along with the Unix base and MacOS X was created and since it is not longer the old code for MacOS, yes the Mac can now be broken. Not because Windows is more popular like some say and a popular argument but because the old school Mac system thwarted hackers around the world. Little known info. unless you've been in the game from the get go. Thanks for the advice though. Not a debate, just a conversation between friends. Cheers..

My boy knows his stuff. I agree. I've never even had a antivirus on my Macs and never had a problem. I'm debating doing so though. Just recently I think 600,000 macs were infected with that Flashback virus. I just skimmed the article but I think the entry was Apples version of Java. They stopped using Oracle versions for their own. They've since upgraded it but just shows they can get in. My interpretation of the "Windows is more popular debate" just means hackers have not directed their focus to Mac. But more so focused on the majority platform. Luckily they are just not as educated with a Mac platform. No question though that it is a far more secure platform currently.

Oh John you're totally on point my brother and I love the conversations where we can learn from each other. I've had many with Tim (H3mp) many nights. I just love it and am glad we got the chance. I do run antiv on my Macs now because we have to. And I'd never forsake progress for the glorious old days, though I miss some of it. You're right on cue my brother. Just needed to clarify we were having a conversation between friends, not comparing wanker size. LOL
Tim, Cydia has a few 4G themes, drop in Winterboard above your current setup. You know the drill.
