You will need your brother's external IP address that is assigned by his ISP. That is what you use to connect to his iPad. On his router, you have to port forward VNC traffic to his iPad's local network IP address. Use the router to set a static IP address for his iPad so the port forwarding will work.

Bare in mind that VNC traffic is unencrypted and port forwarding opens a network port on his firewall, so best only use as needed, and disable port forwarding when not used.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

Thanks for replying so for port forwarding i have linkys. I did start 5900 end 5900 TCP and ending ip 192.168.1.100 and for static dns ip: 192.168.1.102 but not sure if im doing it correctly?
    Thank you

The destination or ending IP address must match that of the iPad's. If the iPad's static IP is 192.168.1.102, then the destination for the port forwarding is the same. Opening 5900-5900 is all you need for VNC.

The external IP address can be found by going to What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More on your brother's web browser.

    Hi,
I remember you helped me before But my brother got a new router R10000G amped. I was wondering if you can help me again

That looks correct. The static IP with this router is the same as a DHCP reservation on others. Your iPhone will always get 192.168.3.107 via DHCP as the router assigns that IP when the iPhone request an IP Address.

    Is everything working?

Hi, Thank you again for responding. Which is very odd it does not work. I use vnc viewer on my computer to connect to my brothers ipad though his external ip but when i try to connect it keeps saying an error message "connection attempt failed" on my computer which i thought i did something wrong with the static ip on his router. Maybe a reboot on the router?

    Thank you

Do you have the correct external IP for his network? The one provided by his ISP? Open whatismyip.com on his computer/iPad to see what it gets. Use that in your VNC client.

yeah absolutely sure. I am going to try to contact him and tell him to reboot his router, because i read somewhere on the manual of the router saying that it needs to be rebooted after setting up a static ip. i guess its worth a shot.

Ill let you know how it goes and thanks again.

Also quick question does the static routes need to have Destination IP Address
    IP Subnet Mask
    Gateway IP Address
    Metric
or only mac address with the ip address? I am also trying to troubleshoot on my router to see if it works too but i have tried both on my router and my brothers. Maybe this might help.

The Address Reservation looks correct. Static Routes are for other things:

"Static Routes provide additional routing information to your firewall. Under normal circumstances, the firewall has adequate routing information after it has been configured for Internet access, and you do not need to configure additional static routes. You must configure static routes only for unusual cases such as multiple firewalls or multiple IP subnets located on your network."

You need to check the port forwarding on your router. Remember that the external access most likely won't work if you are on the network. Try another wifi network or tethering to your iPhone.

A better solution is to setup a VPN server on your brother's network so you can connect that way. An open port like 5900 is easy to find and is a security risk as I assume you don't use encryption. At least disable port forwarding when not in use.

That looks correct. I'm not sure what this isn't working.

Just double-checking: you are using your external ISP IP address (and not your internal: 10.0.0.8) when attempting to connect via 4G?
