Around 2 months ago the Wifi died on my girlfriends 3G.

    I tried the usual stuff,

    Reset
    Reset Network settings
    Reset ALL settings
    Restore
    Updated to 4.1.2 from 3.1.2

    Nothing fixes it.

When i go to search for Wireless networks it searches for 1 second and finds nothing.

Bluetooth works fine and internet over 3G is fine too.

Any way i can fix this?

If none of those things fixed it then only a hardware repair would do the job.

sounds like antenna issue. try to find wifi by placing the phone right next to the router.. I mean like inches away. if it finds it, then it is antenna... if it doesn't, then it is hardware beyond antenna

Yeah i thought so. Just wanted confirmation. Dont think ill bother repairing it as i gave her my old 3GS.

I tried MyWi on it and that WORKS (!!??). My iMac found the 3G using Wifi.

That means the hardware of Wifi still exists in the phone and sort of works.

    Any thoughts?

If you have very weak WiFi reception. A simple fix can be this, if flex ribbon cable 6 came loose.

Very carefully open the iPhone 3g. Make sure cable 6 connector is properly connected to motherboard. Top left of phone, next to connector 5. 6 is the small one.

    Good luck.

Try it on another device. Maybe its their internet. If your iTouch or iPhone or whatever can pick it up and not ur gfs, then it'll be HER phone thats the problem.

Once we've ruled that out, lets go to the obvious next step: RESTORE.

Restore it, sometimes firmwares bug. My music dims out whenever i get a text message. annoying right?

If restoring doesn't work, yeah its a hardware problem. At that time, guess what? Time to call the wonderful people at Apple!

iphone 3g are notorious in having wifi issues i myself ran into this and tried various methods like the "oven trick to reflow it. And still nothing. from what I read is that the battery gets too hot and causes it to malfunction.

I could fix a lot of those errors on 3G/3GS

Try first to replace your antenna, its right under your mainboard and really easy to change.

If this isn't helping you out, put your Mainboard in the oven at 180 (Celsius!!!) for 10 Minutes, wait for it to cool down and then put it back in, i promise, it will work

If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask me!
