A friend had a 3GS with a non-functioning home button. (1) tested the flex prongs to make sure they were contacting the dock [ fail ] (2) replaced the home button flex cable [ fail ] (3) replaced the dock module [ fail ] (4) reset all settings [ fail ] (5) complete restore from itunes [ fail ] (6) another dock [ fail ] (7) dropped mobo into tested and working 3GS chassis [ fail ].

This is one of the cleanest and most pristine 32gb 3GS's I've ever seen. No signs of external damage, water, filth... anything. The unit did not appear that it had ever been opened. Home button functionality is non-existent. Friend was not the original owner. Mysterious...

Was there to much space between the bezel and the dock? You may need to stretch the prongs out a bit more than stock

Yes. Tried to bend the prongs to maximum reach and tried another complete front. I also dropped the motherboard into a 3GS chassis that was 100% functional and still had the same problem. It must be the logic board.
