    Awesome!

Good friend of mine a manager at an Apple store up north. They sent me a screenshot of a memo sent today.

    Thoughts???

We will be lowering our prices but that's pretty competitive.

Unless you've got a source on the inside... they've probably got everyone nailed on cost, OEM quality, and ubiquity. Plus people trust the Apple brand and keeping the manufacturer's warranty valid is a plus.

B-Roll, do you know if Apple is doing this in-store like the old 3G/S displays were at one point or if this is a cheaper refurb/depot repair?

This doesn't scare me at all and for 2 main reasons.

    1) Apple Store is a far drive for most people and the time it takes in the store is ridiculous.
    2) The Apple store in Indiana never did screen replacements on 3G/3GS.. so why would they with the iPhone 5

One, good point. I'm a "big city slicker" by comparison, as there are multiple Apple Stores within twenty minutes of driving. They're perpetually jammed solid, running late, and I wouldn't trust most iOS Genii with a lawnmower, never mind an i5.

Two, this does require taking B-Roll on faith... (also Apple Stores Can Now Replace iPhone Displays While You Wait -- Tech News and Analysis).

Purely as a hypothetical, if Apple wanted to take a huge chomp out of the cottage repairs industry while cutting down refurbishing costs/time and improving customer good will, this would be the way to do it. Particularly if Apple followed the same "free/cheaper if covered under warranty/AppleCare Plus" policy.

Yup, it's true! Well in Las Vegas, at least. I just called down to one our local stores and she said they have started doing glass repairs. She said I needed to make an appointment and have the phone diagnosed before giving me a cost on the repair. However, she did say if all I needed was a screen that it would only take about 10 minutes.

They are doing the full assembly repair. I would post the screenshot of the memo but it has info in it that I wouldn't want my friend to get in trouble with.

The memo states that it is nationwide. I will see if I can doctor it so no pertinent info is seen and post a pic later on.

Also, I wish that wasn't on MacRumors haha. Oh well.

Yeah I'm not too worried about it. Although at my current screen cost that drops my profits down to about $10-$15 per swap. Not a very good margin when you consider how expensive the part is. B-Roll, no offense but I'm matching your price haha. Pretty sure your margins are a lot better lol.

How about that new calibration machine. What the hell does it do? It looks like it can replace the glass but I doubt they'd be doing it like that. But who knows.

    Sounds like ******** to me.

I've been repairing iPhones for 3+ years and never used a "calibration machine"

It really just sounds like a lie to make people thing Apple uses a "special machine"

At the location in West Palm, a customer of ours called and asked and they said they didn't replace the glass yet. They dropped in on visit to the mall and they asked in person ...said same thing. Came to our store after.

They said they would swap it out for a new one though.
