I have an iPhone 4 which was working fine last night. I had it in my camper at about 12% battery and had the alarm on for the next day. The phone didn't die and went off the next morning with 5% battery left so I rushed in and let it charge for about an hour and got it up to around 90% charged. I went outside to do work and my phone crashed and restarted. I figured it was just my tethered jailbreak crashing for some odd reason so I went inside and booted it tethered. This happened a few more times after it and then I just figured I'd restore and re jailbreak when iOS 7 comes out. Restored and the phone still restarts itself. I previously re soldered the battery connectors and went back to check but the connections are all still in place. When I plug my iPhone into the wall it turns on for 3 minutes, service says "searching..." and it turns off 3 minutes later and the process restarts. This leads me to believe that it is a software problem so I figured I'd give it another restore and see if that helps at all. Plugged into my computer but it didn't boot the phone. I think it was because my wall charger was an iPad charger and uses more power. Now I am stuck with a phone that will only turn on while plugged into the wall, and only stays on for 2 or so minutes. ANY ideas or help would be appreciated, I looked around and didn't find anyone else that had this problem so any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you may have fried the pmic on the board. Using the iPad charger pushes too much current. Since I can't see the iPhone in person I can't be certain of that but based on your description thats my best guess. You can try replacing the battery and dock port flex. If you have no luck with that I would guess a fried pmic chip.

if i try a new battery and it doesnt work, is it even worth it to repair the whole mainboard. my phone has no contract so i could go to the att store and get a brand new iphone 4 for free

I'd definitely try the battery. Have you unplugged the battery and reseated it yet? I'd give that a go too. And if you can get it to function well enough to deal with it for a few more months then you could wait until the 4S becomes the free one haha.

ok but if i do come to the option of selling it (if the battery doesnt work, or i get a new one), should i be scared to? i dont have the option of restoring it because it wont boot plugged into my computer. i reset all settings, logged out of my apple id, erased all my contacts and notes and music, if i did all that is it safe to sell it online?
