Really regret purchasing the 16gb iPad. 16gb was a lot of space for my 3GS but definitely NOT enough for my iPad. Do you think the Apple Store is going to charge me a restocking fee when I go in to exchange for a 32gb?

Yes. They will. That's why I got the 64gb model. I didn't like it at first. But it's really growing on me. Especially with pdanet on my iphone and the ability to use wireless anywhere

Really? Even if I pay the difference up front?

EDIT: Thanks GixxerJJ. I'm heading to the Apple Store after lunch with everything boxed. It's worth a shot. Hopefully no restocking fees.

They will do a swap as long as you are still within the return period which I think is 14 days. I returned my 16gb for a 32gb and was in and out of the store within 2 minutes. Yes they will definitely charge you a restocking fee of 10%.

    He has 4 now.
I think CL will be a better outlet for ya.

I bought mine from Apple.com, do you think the store will exchange it or will I have to go through the website. I actually got told by the GF to get another one cause she is tired of me taking it to work. So I may wait and get the bigger 3G one.

Out of curiousity, so I choose the right size ipad.. What is using up more space now vs your iphone? Are you putting movies on there or are the apps larger?

I have put movies on mine so it eats a lot more space. I have not put music on my iPad because I got them on my iPhone. It is a great viewing device so that is why the iPad is getting all the vids. Apps are just slightly bigger. Normal iPhone app is 5-30 mb where a iPad can range from 100-200.

Yeah I have mine full of movies. I have a wifi 16 and a 3g on order 16g. i am now rethinking I should cancel the order and get the 64g... I knew I would like the iPad but i didn't think i was going to find a way to pretty much replace my laptop.

So I am in the same boat... Cancel order and order a bigger one or not...

I went to the Apple Store the other day but they didn't have the 32gb's in stock so I left.

On the macrumors forums, the members there say the Apple Store will waive the restocking fee if I upgrade to a higher model. Hoping that's true, I'll go to the Apple Store again to try my luck and hopefully they have the 32gb model in stock this time.

That's interesting. Are they only taking the ipads back if they were unopened?

As far as I'm aware, restocking fees only apply to opened box merchandise.

i purchased the 64GB wifi and found that i was more mobile than i realized. i called apple for a return and asked that they waive the restocking fee. the person i spoke with was very nice and put me on hold for a few minutes to speak with her supervisor. when she returned to the phone, she waived the fee and then sold me the 64GB 3G model.

now, i just wish apple would return my stolen macbook pro that ups intercepted on it's way to nigeria

I got a 16GB knowing full well that Apple's value added is the touch screen UI and not cheap, fast disk drives. The differential prices for adding more disk space is quite frankly a ripoff, but one Apple can get away with by making an otherwise open architecture closed, and by exploiting Fanboy's uncritical love for the company.

I have also been able to mod my NAS so that I can "browse" my file system on the NAS and don't have to download everything to the iPhone. This way permanent storage is on the NAS, and the iPad keeps only copies that I might be using at any particular time, which i can delete whenever I want.

It is an intentional and unfortunate aspect of the iPhone/iPad architecture that neither allows direct mounting of remote Windows, Osx, and Unix file systems to expand the amount of storage on the device. That forces you have to buy disk storage from Apple at very high prices.

I'm waiting eagerly for some Korean knock-off to use a a touch screen on an otherwise open lintel or wintel architecture to blow this market wide open.
