I just sold my ipod touch 2 and would (obviously) like to replace it.

One of the big things that I wanted was a camera. I only have an slr, and its kind of big. I always miss out on really good shots, and would like a smaller camera. For this reason I'm considering the iphone.

I would get it without a data plan, probably with a bad esn. How would the functionality be with a bad esn? Would it have problems with apps? Would I still be able to get apps from the app store? Would it be slower than an ipod touch? I'm on campus, where I have wifi most of the time, but over summer if i'm out and bored, could I respond to emails from my iphone (and they would send when i got back where there was internet?).

I'm so conflicted on which one i'm going to get. Ipod touch 4, or iphone 4 with a bad esn?

Having a bad ESN means only the phone part wouldn't function as well as messages. You can still use iMessage though. Nothing else at all would be affected.

So would it be exactly like an ipod touch? How about facetime? Would I be able to get that to work?

    Also, could I use icloud?

for what you're asking, the main difference between an iPhone 4 and an iPod touch 4g would be that your camera is WAY BETTER.
    ipod's camera sucks arse.

    You'll have more RAM.
    Brighter, sharper screen.
CPU speed should be about the same.

The iPhone is a bit fatter and heavier, and the battery life would be a bit less.

Why not get an iPod and then not have to deal with a contract?

He's buying a used iPhone that has a bad ESN. It has nothing to do with a contract.

Better to get an iPhone with a bad ESN than an iPod touch. It still has all it's capabilities but without phone.app it has a better camers, sharper display, and more RAM. Overall you should just get an iPhone
