As if Apple isn't sitting on a large enough goldmine already, Silicon Alley Insider says Apple is poised to make bank - big time - on iPad office apps Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Estimates suggest that Apple has already raked in better than $3 million in sales from those apps in the short time the iPad has been available.

Based on more than one analysis of App Store sales thus far, iWork apps have the potential to generate upwards of $40 million in sales annually. And those estimates are far from exaggerated, especially when you consider that Apple's apps have been ranked in the top ten paid apps since the minute the iPad rolled out.

Sales estimates, however, are based on the "assumption" that a top ranked paid application sells approximately 7,500 copies on either a Saturday or Sunday. On a weekday, the same top rated app would would rack up another 2,500 sales. If these are the types of sales that Apple is seeing with its iWork apps, Apple may enjoy a substantial stream of revenue for as far as the "i" can see.

Needless to say, in the big picture, $40 million is a veritable drop in the financial bucket for Apple, especially since the company's overall revenue could rack up $1 billion this quarter. But Apple's increasing ability to rake in the green from a variety of sources - whether its iWork apps or iAd revenue - proves that Apple can make bank in a wide assortment of ways behind their revolutionary devices.

who says apps sell 3x as much on weekends as they do on weekday, but when you do the math, i understand how apple earned $3 million from those apps, since there are already 1 million ipads

I'm curious how many people are buying the apps as well.

Strangely my itunes account got hijacked and a purchase of Notes was made, but it's been charged back by my CC company.

There actually pretty useful and I can print and everything....

My way to print is to

    1. Set up a separate email just for printing. (Gmail suggested)

    2. Get any software that automatically prints attachments or messages that come in.(I use automatic email manager- 30 day trial but u can renew by reinstall but its been more than 30 days for me.

3.Set it up and enter all information you can also set it to only print attachments. Set your time and printer. (I put 2 sec)

    4. It should be ready. Now go to your contacts and add a contact called Print and add the email that you set up with the program.

    5. Now whatever you need to print say through Pages then press email and then just put in Print and send it.

    6. Within 2 sec it should be printing.

Easier than it seems 6 Easy steps

That's also assuming that Apple Pages is truly a Top Paid App and that Apple is just not put it at the Top for the sake of unfair advertising.

I think them making an iPad version of iWork took away from iLife/iWork 10. And if iPad had GarageBand that would be a big selling point

So are all electronics you buy sitting in stock condition without buying any additional software?

I like what Apple have done with iWork. My friends start with Page and they got hooked. Then they're end up buying the whole thing. $35 including tax is a great buy for an office suite.

I bought Pages the day I got my iPad and I was very disappointed. It wouldn't read any of my documents that I have. I would import them into Pages and it would tell me everything that wasn't comparable with it, which was just about everything. It took a couple of days complaining about the app not being what it was advertised to be before they refunded my money for it. I am waiting for Documents To Go to get the upgrade for iPad, everything works on that app.
