What if it was a touchscreen, ran Windows 7, AND had a built in mouse with full funtionality, and is in the same price range as the iPad? Like this one ARCHOS
1 gb memory? 60 gb HD? Advertised 5 hour battery life? WiFi is b/g but no N? No thanks. Plus, I have done Windows - since the days of 3.0. I am done buying anything Windows.

    The same goes for women.....
Not going to EVEN go there!

Most people only use A/B/G 802.11 it is more than sufficient. 1gb of ram? That is plenty for Win7 Home. You wouldn't be playing Crysis on this thing lol. I have a 500gb hard drive in my laptop of which I only use 37gb. 60 is not much less than the iPad. Plus you have the full OS at your fingertips. That alone is the dead ringer for many many people. Windows 7 is a great OS. There is no knocking it.

I am not knocking any OS. But, to run full Windows 7, and then expect to run programs designed for that OS (how about MS Office for example, and other "bloatware) would quickly tax the memory and storage of that device.

I understand your point to an extent. I intentionally keep installed programs to a minimum. All of my Media sits on another hard drive for example. MS Office barely uses any memory...6.5k. If you try to replace a desktop/laptop with a tablet you will lose every time. However, the OS opens up way more than a simple Appstore does.

Captain, you understand how things like that work - and you are most likely quite capable of streamlining what you install. And, obviously, a full OS is more powerful than any phone OS. But, I think your options of what to run and install on a tablet with the configuration in that Archos will be quite limited as compared to the options available for the iPad. After all, even though far less powerful than a full OS, the OS in the iPad screams with speed with the apps created for it. Pages for iPad is fantastic, and does all I need in a word processor on a tablet. I wouldn't begin to think about even trying to use Word, unless they built one for the iPad. But, you and I both know that most users of that Archos will try to cram anything and everything onto it. And, they will be sorely disappointed.

    802.11n restricts me to only about 20 - 24Mb
I need a USB dongle on my laptop to allow me access to my full 50Mb so having 802.11n built in to the iPad is a big plus for me

The name is a borderline ripoff; I'm fairly certain that "eeePad" is phonetically identical to iPad in spanish and several other languages.
Not at all! "eee" sounds in spanish as a simple long "e" (as in pet) whereas ipad sounds completely different.

I'm truly amazed and how much praise some of you heap upon Apple's iPad despite (or in spite of) all the problems and shortcomings of the ipad.

although the Asustek device hasnt been released to the public yet, some of you are already shooting it down and claiming it to be inferior to the ipad.

who the hell wants an ipad anyway?

    - cant charge it on your PC, you have to have a mac...a newer one
    - syncing issues
    - no USB
    - no camera
    - no firewire
    - no memory card reader
    - no flash
    - weak wifi
    - apps look terrible compared to iphone or ipod touch
    - no GPS for the wifi version
    - no multitasking ?!?!? WTF?
    - e-book incompatibility
    - apple ONLY apps, apple still wont allow anything else on "their" device

some of the things the ipad lack are due to apples desire to control how users use it. what practical reason is there for a lack of USB port? or why do you have to have a "newer" mac to charge the damn thing? and please, please, why no flash?

    responses in bold red-

it comes with a charger, so no problem. The charging problem with some PC's is because of the PC, not the iPad.

    - syncing issues
what syncing issues? I sync with no problems at all.

    - no USB
    - no camera
    - no firewire
true, no usb, camera, or firewire. I wasn't looking for that, nor do I need it on an iPad.

    - no memory card reader
Actually, the Camera Connector Kit serves very nicely asa memory card reader, as well as a USB jump drive reader.

    - no flash
    no duh

    - weak wifi
don't know where you got that idea. I have no issues picking up wifi at all.

    - apps look terrible compared to iphone or ipod touch
you are confused. Apps look fantastic! I think you mean that apps designed for iPhone/iPod look nasty when doubled on the iPad. That would be true. But, don't fault the iPad for that.

    - no GPS for the wifi version
How in the world could you even use GPS with wifi only? You get lost inside your house or something?

    - no multitasking ?!?!? WTF?
Actually, you can multitask with Backgrounder installed. But, frankly, the iPad is so fast at switching apps, I rarely need it.

    - e-book incompatibility
iBooks will read any book in the eBook format. And, there is the Kindle app for anything that Amazon sells. Fact is, the ebook reading capablity of the iPad is far greater than any other ebook reader, most particularly the Kindle itself.

    - apple ONLY apps, apple still wont allow anything else on "their" device
If you already use an iPhone, then you knew this going into it. No brainer. But, frankly, Spirit allows you to instantly jailbreak, so no issue.
