Apple has finally enabled the "Assistive Touch," feature to help users perform touch based gestures on the iPad.

The feature, which was present in previous builds of the iOS 5 beta, but has only now been enabled, allows users to perform gestures and button actions in one touch on the iPad. The Assistive touch menu can be called up by tapping a designated corner of the iPads screen.

The overlaid menu appears (much like the the volume display when it is adjusted) and
includes one touch access to a number of gestures including pinch, swipe, shake, rotation, and custom gestures which can be recorded and added to the menu as well.

This seems like a fantastic feature for the elderly, physically disabled, and more forgetful iPad users out there.

I think this is ALSO a nice addition to people who have say, a broken home button, or broken power button like I do on my iPhone 4..

I can finally lock the screen without having to wait for it to turn off after 1 minute.

I feel like this is what Apple is doing. " Since we can't stop people from Jailbreaking to make their devices theirs, we might as well take the ideas that they come up with and implement them and make it a part of the device." In other words, " If you can't beat em, join em".

Settings > General > Accessabilty > Assistive Touch
    Toggle the switch on.
Nothing happens at first, but after I'd turned my iPad off then on again, the little White assist ball appears in the lower right. Hope this helps.
