“Earlier this year we announced a beautiful iPad with a Retina Display,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “But we're not taking our foot off the gas.”

With a shorter than ever gap between new models, the 4th generation iPad was unveiled in San Jose this morning, only six months after the third-generation iPad wowed the mobile community and Apple universe.

On Tuesday, Apple raised the veil on its fourth-generation model, which delivers a substantially faster A6X processor, FaceTime HD camera and, as you might expect, a Lightning connection port.

Best of all, Apple is maintaining its introductory price levels. The new iPad (Wi-Fi-only with 16 GBs) starts at $499, with the Wi-Fi + ceullar version running $629. Embellishing the new model further is the fact that the 4th generation iPad delivers expanded LTE support for the device to be compatible with more global carriers.

    More details to follow.

    Same old ****.

iPad 4 = iPad 3 with faster cpu/graphics and lighting adapter. That's it.
iPad Mini = 8" iPad with iPad 2 specs.

    Prove me wrong.

Except for the lightning connector & upgaded cameras you are correct but I do believe I have proven you wrong enough...

Runs the same chip as the 4S, so it should (theoretically) be able to...

The mini has Siri, according to Apple's spec page.

Good..at least it has Siri. I understand they couldn't reach a price point that low without leaving some things out or using last years technology. My son will love this under the tree this year :]

The A6X chip is a real upgrade. The performance difference between an iPad 2 and iPad 3 is so small that its not noticible to humans. But the difference in performance of an IP5 compared to an IP4s or iPad 3 is massive.

I'm just upset that they said it was the best selling iPad (3rd gen) and threw a new one, in such a short time. Some Jedi mind tricks by taking off the store.

    +1

I am very happy with the camera and speed. I can even use all my old accessories. I will definitely be sticking with it.

Of course. I completely understand. My iPhone 5 is a leap ahead, but an upgrade just for a faster chip is not worthwhile. The real seller is the retina display.
