Apple recently debuted a new television advertisement for the iPad during the NFL playoffs this weekend. This 90-second spotlight features a Robin Williams speech from the film, Dead Poets Society, overlaying the iPad being used in a variety of industries including filmmaking, mountaineering, SCUBA diving, music and more. Accompanying the ad is a new website called “Your Verse” to that shares the stories of the iPad users behind the ad.

The following was said in the TV commercial:

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering — these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love — these are what we stay alive for.

    To quote from Whitman,

"O me, O life of the questions of these recurring.
Of the endless trains of the faithless. Of cities filled with the foolish. What good amid these, O me, O life?
Answer: that you are here. That life exists and identity. That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse."

"That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse."

    What will your verse be?
The Cupertino California company is using the spot along with its previously existing, “Life on iPad” website, to show the variety of ways the iPad can be used when it comes to both work and personal use. Previously in October, alongside the launch of the iPad Air, Apple ran a “Pencil” television spot that touted the iPad’s usefulness in “classrooms, boardrooms, expeditions” and in space.
