iPads are coming to classrooms in St. Paul, Minnesota. According to local news reports out of Minnesota, the St. Paul School District is enacting an iPad initiative this fall.

We're told that this is the largest program of its kind for a state school system. Consequently, the back of every iPad dons a sticker that simply reads: “Provided by taxpayers of St. Paul for students of St. Paul public schools.”

In the coming weeks, iPads will be delivered to approximately 40,000 students. “This will be a great year of exploration,” Superintendent Valeria Silva tells the Star Tribune. St. Paul schools embrace iPad era | Star Tribune
Officials say the St. Paul district now can capitalize on advances made in the use of iPads for learning, and ensure that minority and low-income students are on equal footing with students of other public school systems.
Current plans do not call for families to be charged for student iPad use, although broken, lost or stolen devices could result in out-of-pocket expenses for the families of kids responsible for the loss of property.
