hi, i was thinking, is there a way to control the screen brightness with the volume buttons? of course, you wouldnt want it to not allow you to control the volume easily either, but maybe when a certain app is running, the buttons control screen brightness instead of volume. its just a thought, and i am by no means a coder, but i know that i find myself waiting for preferences to load, then changing the brightness and going back to the app that i was doing before. maybe it could be implemented into an existing utility such as HOOD, so that you never have to quit your app?

    thanks,
    matt W.

Brightness controls are available for SBSettings so they can be easily accessed in any app that shows the statusbar.

Yeah it would be pretty nice to toggle the Volume/Home/Power buttons to our liking.

I don't think it's possible to change the functions of the volume buttons, however it might be possible to disable them.

Actually, I'd rather do it using software than disassembling it...

I've been doing some research on sounds and such.. and It does seem possible that you can override the header file in springboard (using Mobile Substrate) to change what the Volume Buttons do.
So I think it could be possible. ALthough, i don't see much use for it, since I use SBSettings Brightness Widget..

It's totally possible, QuickSMS even takes advantage of that feature and lets you open the SMS client by pressing one of the volume buttons.
