Wasn't the dev team not going to release the 3.1.3 unlock because they said the same exploit was in the new 4.0 baseband. Maybe I read wrong but I believe that the dev team has the power to unlock 3.1.3 and possibly 4.0 but I guess they're waiting till 4.0 rolls out. Well I guess we'll have to wait until after June 21st!
24 my good man..although the update comes the 21st they might wait for the actual iPhone 4 to drop first...i could be wrong

Hmm... iOS4 on my 3G[S] is having all sorts of whacky connections issues - anytime I'm receiving data my battery literally flies down... I can watch percentage points fall.

I've got my iPhone 3GS unlocked on 4.0 with Blacksn0w that loads itself on boot, no need to keep typing in the command each time you boot up your phone.
Can you provide any information on this? msft.guy's solution requires blacksn0w to be run after each reboot. Curious as to how you've got this process automated.

Couldn't you technically open the iPhone 3G firmware, delete the baseband file and boot it with iRecovery like the 3G[S] users who were bricked with Spirit.

It preserves the baseband, while updating to a newer firmware..

If I had cash to drop on a dev spot, I'd try it out on my test 3G

I'd be willing to try this out. Is there a thread or some info on how it is done??

Huh it's weird I wasn't able to load the custom package on my 3GS but I was able to load iOS 4 normally but then when I tried to load the custom FW again it spun me into an endless recovery mode loop...exchanged the phone with apple and got another(both old bootrom btw) tried loading a fresh custom firmware...that hung at preparing iPhone for restore as they did on the first iPhone. I then tried loading the normal ipsw which as befor hung at the end of the first restoring iPhone status bar. Both phones also refused to install a custom 3.1.2 ipsw. All of the above resulted in a 1604 error. The only remedy on the new iPhone was a restore right through iTunes to 3.1.3 which is fine because I don't need an unlock. I then JB'd with spirit...wondering if I should reinstall iTunes, pwnage, custom bundles etc. Because I've tried multiple restarts, swapping USB ports and cables. All with no luck.

To my knowledge Spirit's userland jailbreak is not compatible with loading custom firmware. That's probably the reason why. If you have your 3.1.2 shsh on saurik's server then restore to a virgin 3.1.2, jailbreak it with blackra1n or redsn0w (I prefer red), and then restore with the custom 4.0 firmware that can be downloaded from Stealth's site.

Erg no I don't....only the 3.1.3 shsh. I was working off of a custom firmware on the first 3GS and as I said the only way out of the recovery loop was 3.1.3 unfortuanely so I'm probably stuck....oh well I'll be getting the 4 soon. Any chance is ug to 4 can I load a custom firmware at that point?

does anyone have a custom firmware for the 3g? i thought this can be done with pwnagetool, but all i see are custom firmwares for the 3gs.
