I had this message pop up on my iphone yesterday....I am in the UK on the O2 network, just after I updated my iphone to 4.0 and Jailbroke. I clicked update. Can anybody tell me if I am going to face any problems now, or in danger of being hacked etc? I am a little confused as to what this means, I thought it was only on the AT&T network.

    Cheers

my only thought is if any part is true or not, i'm curious as to why so many people got their iphone 4 early, we all know apple is strict about release date and info, that is the part that gets me. I work at BBY and a co-worker got his early (ordered online apple) and a customer came into today with one, got my hands on it! amazing! There has been no word from apple or At&t about why people got the iphone early. On a side note, i'm glad im off tomorrow, my g/f reordered mine from BBY so I could get it tomorrow, My BBY only received 40 today, 30 16GB B and 10 32GB B, i was ...i mean she was number 2 on the list for a 32GB B!!!!!!! i'll be posting a lot tomorrow!

what i dont get is how att and apple can send an ota update to a phone they dont know imei or serial to a person on another service provider. Apple nor att know my imei nor am i on the att network so they would have to have tmobile permission and help to send me an ota update...sounds like this guy doesnt know much of what he is talking about. Plus it would have to be connected to some form of internet to receive on ota update or the user has to tell it where to send it or accept..very silly and sounds bogus

To those who believe this crap I have a bridge in Brooklyn. I'll sell it to you real cheap. Anyone with half a brain knows that AT&T or any carrier would have ability to send updates to a phone on their network. It's moronic to think however that this Alpha guy is anything more than some idiot feeding us all a line of bs. Based on what I read this project has been going on this long and so many insiders are upset yet no one has heard about it until the launch of iPhone 4? Why is Modmyi even putting this stuff on the site. Next thing we know Modmyi will be paying finder's fees for prototypes like Gizmodo did.

This is very possible via a phone home feature in iOS, the AT&T phones may have a phone home feature that requires a periodic OTA carrier settings update and all iPhones may have a phone home to apple that reports FW version, BB and whether or not the device is JB....that being said once someone figures out where(if) this is happening it ought to be preventable quite easily....they may have accounted for a host hack and if the phone requires a periodic update we'll have to spoof both the FW/BB/JB and carrier info to fool the servers....chances are this is all a load of bs but it could be true....that being said I would not be very happy with it. I get apple likes to control all aspects of the user experience but keep it within reason!!! If they did this to OS X I don't know what I would do....Linux maybe. I feel like it's allready reached ridiculousness with a strictly closed deving platform, FW signing and the plethora of other crap that they impose on their users. In fairness the majority of their users don't notice/care and are very happy about the experience(hence Apples quarterly earnings). IDK I really hope this is false but if not hopefully there is a fix ASAP as I assume if you JB even once you will void your warranty and leave you SOL

How can AT&T send an OTA update if you don't have an AT&T SIM card in your phone? If you're on, say T-Mo's network, how can they do such a thing?

dude i have been calling from my iphone 3g jailbroken/unlocked t-mobile all week and i have had the most supreme help from one of the nicest supervisors at apple just 5 minutes ago...and none of that information suede her from getting a supervisor from att on the line and hashing out my order issue. Got it all taken care of too so thats a lie

exactly the only way they can do that is if they have the support from tmobile to send the ota request...and tmobile loves their iphone customers so i doubt that would happen.

Simple, when jailbreakable someone just jailbreak and unlock theirs, go on a tmobile sim, and call apple saying your phone is messed up and need service, if they let you then this is bs, if they say no your jailbroken and broke your contract then we can all cry.

Clearly you don't know just how much money your information is worth to people. Their are million dollar companies that focus solely on buying and selling information... It's not about any single person's information, it's about the MASSES.

This article is regarding ATT. Not that I believe this is 100% true, but how does your situation give or take credibility with this one. iPhone contracts OUTSIDE the USA are a COMPLETELY different ball game.

You are still going to have to give them info. about your specific unit. If this "phone home" feature is true, the rep. will have all the info. he/she needs regardless of what phone you call from...
