Wow, Apple is going to have it's lawyers busy on this one. I wonder how this will unfold? Obviously, Apple will not put out "jailbroken or unlocked phones", but maybe ATT will hand out unlock codes freely now? Also, this "should" make it a lot easier to jailbreak in the future. I have to think this will end all the cat and mouse games between Apple and the Dev Team and other jailbreak developers.

So does that mean we should be entitled to an official carrier JB and unlock?

Does this mean our jailbroken phones won't void the Apple warranty when we bring it in to the Apple Store?
    Nothing beats the iPhone.

What does that mean? like if i buy another iphone off craigslist i can leagally unlock it? would i then be able to ask att to do so?
Yes. You could always legally unlock it because it was never deemed illegal to. No. AT&T won't ever unlock an iPhone. They gain nothing and they still have exclusivity as of right now. AT&T will never do anything that will benefit a customer so don't expect to get an unlock from them, besides if I'm not mistaken that's at Apples discretion anyway.

Call me crazy--but I get the feeling this is going to incite on of those PSAs on Apple's website like they've been doing recently in response to accusations and bad public media concerning them.

"While it is, in fact, legal to do so, it is strongly discouraged and will void any warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan you may have either received with your device or purchased separately..."

apple probably doesn't even care if you can jailbreak your device. they are still making money by selling them. but still, jailbreaking FTW

I wonder what this means for having the phone unlocked once a contract is fulfilled. AT&T doesn't care about unlocking phones once the contract is up, but AT&T doesn't have the unlock codes, Apple does. I'm sure they will still find a loophole to keep jailbreaking considered illegal and to keep them from having to unlock the phones.

So that means that Apple can no longer patch the holes that are found?
Making jailbreaking and unlocking legal and requiring it be easy are entirely different things.

Watch for additional lawsuits to get the latter accomplished.

Seeing as Jailbreaking wasn't really illegal, or rather a controversial subject, this is quite a shock. However, having it legalised means maybe more people will start to help in the JB process, since they'll have no fears of breaking any law.

All in all, this is a win for us users

If apple was smart they would just allow all apps. The more apps, the more money they make.
