^You don't know business very well. Retired VP Manager here.

This is nothing new. Grow by acquisition, or grow internally.

Growth by acquisition creates nothing new. Rebranding, elimination of duplication jobs, less choices.

    Plain and simple. Nothing new.
Rigggghttt. Based on what you have said thus far it's obvious this is a lie. Everyone on the internet is a corporate hot shot that dates supermodels right? The aquisition allows minimal spending on hardware while increasing penetration and quality... AND with both companies working toward the common goal of pushing LTE they can work together rather than against. This brings LTE to consumers sooner than later.

    ^Consumer happingess also includes choices!!!!
    What choices would you like?

hahahaha i laugh at how people say at&t cost so much, im paying 175 for 5 lines with 700 mins, rollover, unlimited texting for everyone, a 30 and a 15 dollar iphone plan. if i had this on verizon i couldnt even get it as cheap, it cost me over 200 bucks. this merger is great,i could use better voice around here

    ^OK. Say what you will.

One day you will wake up and realize this does not help the American consumer. The only true beneficiary is AT&T management and stock holders.

They could easily share networks NOW! IF they wanted to.

    Nothing new

I guess we can agree to disagree on this point.

    ^

JP Morgan give AT&T $20 Billion 1-year loan to finance the deal.

Also, AT&T agrees to pay T-Mobile $3Billion break-up fee (if US regulators don't approve the merger)

My new book: How to spend billions and have nothing new

AT&T definitely has the wrong idea... Try spending a few billions on networks, and you might actually be the biggest.
It sounds like if AT&T can't built its [LTE] network fast enough, they'll just buy an existing network.

Sounds like a way to kick-start AT&T's LTE network...

yep, that's exactly it. Rather than wasting money in overlapping infrastructure, focus can now be placed on areas not covered well by either company.

^Overlapping infrastructure is necessary to accommodate the call/data volume in any wireless spectrum. For example, in some areas, cell towers are found every block. Within each wireless spectrum a finite amount of data can be transferred.

Buying existing towers is nothing new. Build MORE towers AT&T --- please!!!!

I guess I should have rephrased that. What I mean is redundant towers in areas that do not need the throughput. AT&T is building more towers. I can tell you this from seeing it first hand. Lots of rural areas are being expanded long before this buyout.
