A wicked cool (but not yet released) creation for jailbroken iPhones is getting a lot of buzz ahead of its much-anticipated release -- and not without good reason.

The app in question -- which is iOS 5 ready, by the way -- is IntelliID. As you might imagine, it provides Caller ID for your iPhone. But what we're dealing with here is an immensely sophisticated app even capable of looking up wireless callers.

According to Intelliborn, makers of IntelliID, the app fetches the caller's name from a US/Canada calling database and displays on the incoming call screen, as well as missed calls on the lock screen and on the recent call list.

    Among the announced features:
    • Rapidly fetches incoming caller name
    • Add to contacts automatically enters First and Last Name in Contacts entry
    • Integrates into Missed Call information in Recent Phone list and on lockscreen for iOS 4.x and iOS 5.x!
    • Full 30 day history helps you keep track of your lookup usage

IntelliID also makes it simple to add contact numbers after they've called by filling in their first and last name when you add an IntelliID'd new contact.
IntelliID will be available on a subscription basis. All tiers include 6 months of service. Tier 1, for example ($4.99), gets you 250 lookups per month; Tier 2 ($7.99) bestows 500 lookups per month; and Tier 3 ($9.99) gives you Unlimited lookups (limited to one device only).

A free trial (10 Free Lookups) is being made available to new users. IntelliID supports iOS 4.x and, as mentioned, iOS 5.x.

Lots of phones here in the UK are PAYG which have no registered owner and those that are on contract are usually ex-directory so no use this side of the pond.

Will this application work in other countries like Singapore? I am paying the operator here for caller ID service.

It will only work in the USA and Canada on launch- wether it is possible for them to roll out to other countries depends on the availability of the data and the laws in your country.

I see. Is the prices they are offering really cheaper than what the telco operators charge in USA for caller ID display service?

Caller display normally (at least here in the UK - not sure about elsewhere) only displays the number of the person calling. What this program does is looks up that number in the directory and returns the name of the person calling. If the number is already in your contacts the iPhone already does this but if the number is not in your phone book the iPhone will only display the number. This service gets around that so, provided the number is in the directory, it will always show the name of the person calling and it will also allow you to add the name to your contacts.

As I already have the numbers of anyone I know (if i don't and want it I'll just ask), I'm not sure that this would be of any value to me if it was available in the UK but others seem to think it worth it.

Sounds interesting. Too bad intelliborn can't fix MyProfiles to work with current iOS release, as its still only working with 4.2.1. Support claims to have no idea when an update will be released. Watch before you leap with these people.

Very cool and useful, but only worth a 1 time fee, not an ongoing one.

wow, very cool! just not worth the cost IMO. For me, i don't get That many unknown callers, so i'd be useful a few times a month, but that's it, so for those 3-5 times, it's not worth the $5

For $5 every 6 months this is a great deal. Rogers charges me $12 a month for voicemail and call display.
