On a different viewpoint, I believe apple actually benefits from jail breaking in general. I know I wouldn't buy/upgrade if a device is not jailbreakable.
Thats exactly why I stayed with Apple. If I can't jailbreak (improve) my iPhone I don't really have a need for it.

Surprised it took so long to make the front page as it was old news when I woke up here in the UK yesterday.
Without Comex I'm not sure we will see any new jailbreaks for some time - existing ones will continue to get updated but......

I'm shocked that anyone can even begin to be critical of his decision. He's done something amazing for all of us, now it's time he did something amazing for himself, namely, line up career options for the future. The sort of people who are complaining about this are myopic, selfish goons who not only want everything free, but also want everything done for them. If we all subscribed to this kind of passive-aggressive welfare-presupposing envy that we'd still be drawing on walls in caves with our own faeces. All I can say is congratulations and good bloody luck. Oh, and thanks.

Im surprised Apple hasn't done this more often or until now and I suspect we will see more of this from them.
    Why ?
The JB community saves Apple a ton of development investment.
They can freely use JB-devs' work, once it's been fully tested in the JB-wild ... without having to pay them a penny.
Apart from which, by searching for exploits, JB-devs keep iOS extremely secure by revealing those exploits when the JB is released.

iOS would be nowhere near where it is today, were it not for JB'ing.

His hiring by Apple may be an indication that Apple is preparing to give JB's what they want in iOS-5.
That would be the simplest way to stem losses from lost app revenues.

Let's see code for donations only or have a job with Apple? I'd "sell out" too. People need to eat.
Justify however you like. I am sure he was eating just fine though.

It's the principle of the thing. Everything he stood up for... just got bought out. Or, maybe he didn't stand up for anything and he could give a rip about Apple's tendency to tie us down. It happens all the time. You stand up to the man until the man is willing to shut you up with some money. I don't hate the guy for it, but I call it out like it is.

This makes no sense. This guy wasn't an app developer, he was the guy that opened the doors for tweaks. Apple doesn't need this guy to add the things that they were previously unwilling to add. They just need to do it.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.
