*clap clap clap*Really didn't expect this much of an upgrade in iOS5.Just bought iPad2 yesterday, and would love to upgrade to iOS5 as soon as it is out.Plus, it seems like there's been quite of bit of dev teams already working for the JB iOS5. Wonder how quick they'll release it this time! hopefully very very soon!
They said it'll be out today. IDK For iPad 2 tho...

Title is misleading it should just read "iOS 5 - Full Review" if you ask me....I'm just saying.

This post is "premature" to the extend that iOS 5 is not out yet. This article serves as a go-to guide to learn or remind yourself about what is new. Stay tuned!
Perhaps leaving out the "released" in the article title would have been more appropriate. It is not yet "released" however this is a good "Full Review". The "released" does nothing to add value to the title of the article - but it does make pedantic asshats like me irritated.

Or if the "released" absolutely must be in the title, wait to actually push out the article until the product is actually, you know, actually "released".

Unless the goal is to irritate us pedantic asshats?

i have an iphone 4 on jailbroken 4.3.3 (AT&T) and want to upgrade to iOS5 once it comes out. will i have any issues b/c it's jailbroken currently or should i just be able to plug the phone into itunes and upgrade to 5.0? i have upgraded before to other software versions in the past and it froze my phone and messed up and stuff. just wanted to check if anyone knows if it will be an easy transition to 5.0 from a jailbroken 4.3.3 iOS. thanks!!
no way. If you want to update to iOS 5 you need to click restore when syncing to iTunes, not update, and unless you let it back up your phone you'll lose all your contacts too. There's no jailbreak available for iOS 5 yet (that's untethered). Although rumor has it that there will be one upon release.

I for one want to say *thank you* for this very in-depth review. I'm sure this took a lot of time to write, and I appreciate the effort to break this all down. Cheers!

I'll wait a while before updating. I'm not an early adopter of anything, and I like the kinks to be worked out first. Besides, I'm JB and will wait for the untethered JB. I'm quite sure the jailreakers want to make sure all the solutions are userland friendly.

So, I understand that the iPhone 4 and possibly iPad 2 will not feature Siri. What I am, wondering, though is if there will at least still be the inclusion of a dictation feature? Similar to the one that Android has in the form of a little microphone button on the on-screen keyboard?

Does anyone know? I've kind've been promising this feature to my 85 year grandma this for her iPad 2!

It's an easy transition, but the jailbreak will be tethered. if you want to preserve baseband, make sure you use tiny umbrella. Many Cydia apps have been updated to support iOS 5 and more will be updated in near future.

@Nest: That was from the Apple page. So it should be out sometime soon. They obviously get it before the public lol

    what about iCloud?
iCloud is actually a separate service/feature in and of itself that is integrated into iOS 5 now. iCloud was launched separately early this morning.

That would have been the better route. I did not write this article so I have no control over what the title says as well as the content. I just posted to make sure people were not confused.

If you upgrade your jailbroken iPhone regardless what model it is, you will loose all your jailbreak data. This happens every time you upgrade or restore your iPhone. Even if you upgraded your iPhone to iOS5 when it comes out, you will have to wait for a jailbreak to be released in inorder to have your phone work like it is right now. Just a heads up!

As the article says - most likely all these features will be released with at like 1PM EST. Some features like the iMessanger are not iPhone compatible only iPad and iPod. Other features like the update for iTunes you can do yourself by apple.com/itunes. I was on the beta 7 for itunes and it didnt recognize the final version. Just download directly and install. As for the OS update to 10.7.2 its probably at 1PM EST
