A new, extremely difficult and warranty voiding mod eliminates the need for a charging case to wireless charge your iPhone. Apple, please build this into the next iPhone.

*Before reading any further, this mod voids your iPhone warranty, and is not for the faint of heart, or inexperience iDevice tinkerer. Nor is it cheap.*

Normally wireless charging solutions require a case in addition to a charging mat, but Tanveer (doctor by day, modder by night) eliminated the need for a case during the wireless charging process. Tanveer took apart a wireless charging case for the iPhone, and purchased a spare iPhone back panel, spare charger port assembly, and some very thin wire gauge.

The video below details the extensive process below which includes the need for some serious soldering skills in order to modify the spare rear panel. The modification does add some thickness to the iPhone, but it appears to be barely noticeable.

This is a difficult, awesome, and expensive mod. If your dare do it, watch the video below, and make sure you know what the Dutch a soldering gun is.

How in the world is it pointless? The point is to charge wirelessly; without wires. lol

Awesome to have, although not worth the trouble. Try putting a protective case on that iPhone and see if it still charges. I'd like to see this technology used in a future version, my wires always end up crapping out on me and I happen to have a powermat.

I meant it's pointless to do all of that. Setting your iPhone on a charge mat, how is this any different than the WiCC from Powermat? Wireless charging, doesn't void warranty, no soldering...like I said, this is pointless to do when there are wireless charge pads all over, which is all this is.

I wonder if it still allows for a normal charger to work and to sync

Maybe so you don't have to put a big *** ugly charging case on the phone.

But here in japan there are japanese cellphones that can be charge wirelessly, plus I saw a news 2 months ago that apple filed a patent for charging future idevices that doesnt require a wire its like a charging dock where you just put your i device and it will charge itself, but that method is already present here in Japan for quite sometime on some JP made smart phones

Lol you act like voiding our warranty is rare.. Haha jailbreaking voids it too why don't you have warnings in front of all your tweak articles.

Btw freaking awesome and hog guy you are retarded.. That's like saying jailbreaking is pointless cause you could just download wallpapers that look like themes and not void your warranty

I was wondering this as well when the question was posed on "lifehacker"

I'm not much of wireless charging guy myself, but it's an interesting concept...the music was annoying though.

I would like to know how to do this. Who has warranties? Jailbreaking voids it too but lots of people do that. I WANT THIS MOD!!!

And almost certainly. I mean, it doesn't cover up the dock or remove the dock now does it?

Perhaps due to the size of the dock? Perhaps because the second the back panel isn't touching the charger, it no longer charges? Sure, I like to keep my phone on a pedestal.....

Turn an entirecomputer desk/workbench into a wireless charging solution, then I'll be impressed and find something like this worthwhile.

You, my friend, must also get amused when you see two birds flying around and mating...

Well realize the fact that jailbreaking only voids the warranty if Apple knows about it. This however is an irreversible hardware tweak that more than likely cannot be reversed as a jailbreak can be in case you are in need of the warranty.

Its not pointless the fact that you can charge your iPhone with out wires, but more importantly without the bulky case it's a great mod.
