If you feel like Apple’s stock Weather application is blah and bland, then you’re entitled to that opinion. For sure, there are many that agree with you. For anyone that dislikes the stock Weather application, the App Store has many alternatives, such as this nice new application called Daily Weather+. Daily Weather+ will show the weather in a newspaper-like style and the graphics are distinct and gorgeous.

Shown above, Daily Weather+ has a creative loading page that appears every time you launch the application. Since the theme of the application is being newspaper-based, the loading screen jokingly says, “Printing… please wait.” The first time you open the application, you will be greeted with instructions for using the application – the only control it has is flipping through pages of weather, which gives it that newspaper-like feel. The animations are smooth and each page represents a different day of the week. The paging animation is represented in the example below:

Depending on your weather, the picture will display a different look to match your weather. The graphics are very detailed and include pictures for partly cloudy, mostly cloudy, sunny, rainy, and more. The fonts of the text showing you the temperature and other important weather information is printed in colors and formats that you would expect in a newspaper.

The application includes the ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius simply by tapping on the box at the bottom right and it will also switch the wind speeds from miles per hour to kilometers per hour and show you the direction of the wind. Humidity is also shown in between the temperature unit selector and wind speed. Above, it takes the liberty of telling you what it’s like outside – in this case for Florida, “It’s hot.”

The application will ask you for your location to give you accurate weather results for your current location similarly to the way Apple’s stock Weather application does; however, it also comes with the ability to add locations at your will, which is great for seeing what the weather is like at other locations where your friends and family reside:

Daily Weather+ is 99˘ in the App Store from this link for the iPhone and iPod touch and from this link for the iPad. Daily Weather is also available (without the +) for free, which is ad-supported for the iPhone and iPod touch from this link and the iPad from this link. If not only functionality, but also appearance, is a big deal to you, then check out this weather application. The free application offered will allow you to test-drive the application before making the decision to buy the real version or not.

Yes, it looks interesting. However, when I took a look at it over at the iTunes Store (sounds funny, like I actually walked over there) the reviews were not so kind. The biggest drawback for me, assuming that it actually functions (which some reviews say it doesn't do well- connection issues, slow updating, daytime picture at night) is that it doesn't seem to give a 5-7 day forecast. Especially during our current heat wave, I like to be able to look ahead and see if the weather is going to get more... reasonable. Maybe the new update fixed some of these issues (there were no current reviews for the just-released update), but I think I'll hold off.

You could still try out the free version of the application and see if it works for you. Many errors can be because of failures of their Internet connections.

Works fine and looks cool, but don't like having to scroll through the 5 day forecast. Need that at a single view.
