Brightness is one thing that we often like to adjust depending on our surrounding conditions. For some reason, Apple thought it would be best to hide brightness deep within the Settings application, however volume is easily adjustable from two locations – the multitasking App Switcher and the volume buttons – so why not share one of these locations with brightness?

A new jailbreak tweak called BrightnessIcon by iOS developer Tarek Khalaily makes it possible to switch the function of your volume up and volume down buttons between a volume adjustment method and a brightness adjustment method on demand. This makes it easy to adjust the brightness of your display on the fly. As shown above, the tweak will display a message every time that you switch between making the volume buttons function as a volume adjustment method or a brightness adjustment method.

In addition to changing the function of your volume buttons, the tweak will also intelligently change the heads-up-display (HUD) icon between volume and brightness when you switch between the two functions:

Changing the function of your volume up and volume down buttons is easy. BrightnessIcon adds an application icon to your home screen and tapping on the icon will change the function of your volume buttons. It doesn’t open any application interfaces, but you will get the pop-up notification (as shown in the first image of this review) each time you tap on it and the notification will alternate between the two functions each time you tap on the application icon. The application icon is shown below:

Edit: The tweak appears to have been pulled just after this writing. It appears to be a copy of the following: Github.

Add source rpetri.ch/repo/ to Cydia. You will find an updated activator in there.

No I mean I can't find the "Brightnessicon" tweak!? And also I would like to know if you can use an activator command to toggle between volume and brightness!? As that would be much better than a sb icon...

Edit: Sorry, rushed in posting there!

Edit2: Just sourced a copy and it didn't work at all on my iPad 3! Probably why it was pulled!? Such a shame, been waiting for a tweak like this for years :-(

I appreciate the effort, but it is still pretty much useless.

First of all, where is ACTIVATOR option?????????
I was so happy to see this tweai, thinking i can assign the activator. And found out it is the only one in my phone which does not have activator

Second of all, as long as i need to exit any application to adjudt brighness, i will never use it. It is simply counter productive.

I think the best brighness adjustment out there is so far Music Controls Pro. It sits nicely in your task switcher at the very top of the screen.

Then i would use, dashboard x, lockinfo, brightslide, nc addpns

Thank you for the effort though

SwIpeBright is cool. But it takes away activator functions from status bar
