Last week ModMyi showed you a free jailbreak tweak called TitleSpeak that could be used to speak the titles of banner notifications. Granted it was free, speaking only the banner notification title isn’t as useful as speaking the whole notification. The same developer behind TitleSpeak has brought us another free jailbreak tweak dubbed VSNotifications and it includes many more features including those of TitleSpeak.

Being that VSNotifications has many more features, it has the grounds to compete with other jailbreak tweaks such as Aloud and SpeakEvents. It doesn’t have nearly the same amount of features as them, but it does offer the key notification announcement functionality using Siri’s voice. Also, for free, you would be hard-pressed to find a tweak as fully-featured as Aloud or SpeakEvents, so VSNotifications gives us considerable functionality for the price.

After installing VSNotifications, you will get a new preferences pane in the Settings application, which we have illustrated for you below:

The tweak can be enabled and disabled at any time, which is great for when you need to silence notification announcements while in a meeting, in class, or at the dinner table. You can enable the tweak again as soon as you are finished and your spoken notifications will commence once more.

VSNotifications also allows you to hide the actual banner notifications from the screen, although the tweak will still speak the notification out loud to you even without the notification appearing before your eyes. This innovative feature is wonderful for playing full-screen games that you don’t want to be disturbed with banners while playing, but you will still be able to get notified with the spoken notification. Pretty cool, huh?

VSNotifications allows you to pick to speak both the title and the message, or just the title, or just the message. Speaking only the title will give you privacy as no one around you will know what the content of the notification is, although speaking the message will actually let you hear more without reading or even taking the device out of your pocket.

VSNotifications also comes with a custom speech option, which will allow you to input a string of text. After enabling this feature, whatever string of text you entered will be spoken after you receive a spoken notification. It will play literally immediately after the spoken notification is done alerting you.

With the After-app-launch feature, you can input a string of text and VSNotifications will speak that text every time you open an application from your SpringBoard. This is a neat little customization trick that your friend’s stock iPhone can’t do, so it’s fun to show off even though it has barely any true uses. VSNotifications includes a similar feature for when you close applications from the multitasking App Switcher called the After-app-quit feature – just input a string of text and it will be spoken after you quit applications suspended in the App Switcher.

The last feature of VSNotifications is Activator-based and allows you to invoke a prompt that will ask you input a string of text. Whatever you enter will be spoken using Siri's voice. This could be fun for pranking your friends. After you type the text, you can tap cancel or speak:

For a free tweak, if you’ve been looking for voice notifications, this is definitely the way to go. We can’t really find any major flaws in the functionality of the tweak, as it works so well in what it does. The extraneous voice features are pretty fun to use and the developer of the tweak promises that even more cool features are headed our way in a future update. Try it out!

VSNotifications will install TestBanner so you can test out your changes in the Settings application. No resprings are required after each change in the Settings application.

Crashed for you? I wonder why.

No crashes whatsoever while I was testing it, but I use a clean device for testing every tweak. There's a chance something you have installed could be conflicting with it, or its dependencies.
