Didn't know there was a problem. I was iMessageing my kids all day. (with Fido in Toronto).
BUT--- I was watching HLNews yesterday and they were saying how the DEA is upset with iMessage because they can't trace them(read them etc). Due to the fact they go threw the Apple server and not your cell phone company's server. I can't help but wonder if Apple is trying to KEEP THEM OUT.

dont know if this is related, but i had a friend who would call me but when i texted her number... the imessage ended up going to a business cell phone in a different state?? so all of her friends were sending txt messages to a complete stranger and wondered why she acted like it was not her. at least the recipient was kind enough to be honest and say that these texts where not going to the intended person.. lol.. thanks apple

Some residual effect: I started to send my sister a message this morning and looked to make *sure* it said "iMessage" in the text box. I sent and it went out as text. The box still said "iMessage" and I sent another message as a test. It also went out as text.

I had to reboot my phone once more, which I had done several times during the outage. Overall, I got billed for at least 9 text messages.

    Damn you, Apple! DAMN YOOOOUUU!

Oh well. Not that big a deal.

I didn't have any issues with iMessage at all, however I did have an outage for FaceTime for about 6 hours. I thought the two services were tied together, ie- No FaceTime, No iMessage but apparently this is not true.

Another note, all 4 devices owned my wife and I (2x iPhone 5's, iPad Mini, and an iPad 2) are jailbroken on 6.1.2. We experienced the exact same issues even though we're currently separated by like 8000 miles.

I read the same thing. The DEA wants Apple to give them the encryption keys to be able to look at iMessage texts anytime they want. That's probably what's going on. They are setting them up so they can spy on us now.

Could've also been two other possibilities:

    1) Anonymous hacked something deeper into iMessage like they did a couple weeks ago.

    2) Apple was fixing the part of iMessage that Anonymous hacked
