After several years of beta testing, the popular Swype keyboard made its official debut on Android earlier this week. As of right now, although its only available on a handful of platforms, Swype vice president Aaron Sheedy has mentioned that there is a chance that we could see Swype’s technology on iOS in the future.

Sheedy confirmed that his company has held talks with Apple, sparking speculation that suggests the pair are working together to help develop a “revolutionary” new keyboard – possibly one we might see in the upcoming iOS 7 update. This was originally brought up in Sheedy’s AMA or “Ask Me Anything” thread on Reddit. A curious Redditor asked the following:

I was curious as to whether you’ve ever had any contact with Apple. Any conversations to see if they might have been interested in licensing your technology?
    Sheedy replied by saying:

Hah. The million (ok billion) $ questions. Yes, we have chatted with them, they are very smart and nice.
This of course, isn’t a concrete confirmation but it does seem like Sheedy doesn’t want to reveal any details regarding the matter. What it does do though is leave many iOS users excited in hopes of the technology making its way over to the iOS platform. The move suggests that something interesting could be happening considering that Apple just doesn’t have talks with a company for no reason, especially one which develops for a rival platform exclusively. This along with the possibility that Apple is looking to improve its virtual keyboard for iOS devices make the possibility of Swype coming to iOS seem all that much more believable.

Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens but those of us who are interested in the technology can keep our hopes up and fingers crossed.

I like the idea but when using it on my droid it annoys me as it nearly always needs the words changed

Never been a huge fan of Swype, but if Apple can make something sweet out of it then mad props to them. I like what BB did with their new word suggestion, it's pretty cool.

Yes you are correct. Siri was actually just a app in the app store.
