Apple unveiled iOS 7 at the Keynote Monday afternoon for WWDC 2013. iOS 7 brings a completely new interface to iOS devices, as well as several new features and improved applications. Many people are excited to get it installed on their devices when it gets released to the public. Others will be keeping their jailbreaks on iOS 5 and iOS 6.

If you were wondering what devices iOS 7 will be compatible with, then you're in luck. Apple has updated their Web site with information about iOS 7 and one of the things they show is the devices that iOS 7 will be able to run on. The device list includes:

    • iPhone 4
    • iPhone 4S
    • iPhone 5
    • iPod touch 5G cameraless
    • iPod touch 5G with camera
    • iPad 2
    • iPad with retina display
    • iPad Mini

Notably, Apple has phased out the iPod touch 4G. The iPod touch 4G operates with the same processor as the iPhone 4, which is still supported; however, the iPod touch 4G has half of the memory as the iPhone 4. With all of iOS 7's new features, the memory is probably a big deal and why Apple phased out the iPod touch 4G.

iOS 7 will be released in the Fall to the public. Developers can download a beta version of the software update starting today.

Looks like I get to keep my 4 a little longer until the next phone after the 5s.

This makes me wonder why the iPod touch 4G was left out but iPhone 4 was included? What's the hardware difference?

The main difference is that the iPod Touch 4G has half the memory that the iPhone 4 has. Memory may not be spoken about too often, but with many devices coming out with 1-2 GB of memory, 256 MB of memory is quite low.

I'm so happy to not see iPod Touch 4th gen on the list. It's Apple's weak, stupid red-headed stepchild

iPod Touch 4th gen owners can't read right I assume -_-

So only the current, absolute latest gen, iPod touches work with it and yet you are OK with that? The "stupid red-headed stepchild" designation belonged to the iPod touch 2G that was sold as an 8GB iPt 3G through the entire 3G life cycle. I still find people swearing that they have an 8GB "3G" iPod touch because most retailers wrongly/stupidly advertised it as such.

OK. So the 4th-gen iPod touch doesn't have enough memory. Doesn't mean I'm willing to forgive Apple for not giving it enough to begin with, especially after the huge delay of iOS4 on the original iPad for the same reason (not enough memory for new iOS features like multitasking).

I did. It doesn't mention "the new iPad".

I know that but it's official name is not on the list. The official name of the 3rd gen iPad is "the new iPad".

That's true, but they're supporting the iPad 2, so it would be stupid to not support the 3.

The iPad 3 and 4 have retina display. They have been lumped together obviously.

Anthony didn't lump the iPod touch 5g together so I was just making sure.

That's a graphic straight from Apple I believe so they are the ones that put the 2 iPads together. Makes sense, physically they look and do the same things (the 4 just having a little specs boost on the inside), so it's logical to group them together as iPad with retina display. The iPod touch on the other hand has a noticeably different look than the nomral 5G version and has no back camera.
