With Instagram gaining video capabilities just recently, some are a little upset that you can only capture new videos through Instagram and can’t import existing videos from your Camera Roll to Instagram.

With a new jailbreak tweak, however, you can. Dubbed InstaChooser by iOS developer Stevie Hetelekides, this new tweak will let you choose existing videos from your Camera Roll and upload them to your Instagram.

When you enter video mode in Instagram, you will see a new button labled “Import” that you can tap on to browse your Camera Roll for videos to upload, as shown above. Notably, you won’t want to upload a video longer than 15 seconds, because Instagram video only supports 15-second videos. We tried pushing the limits and anything longer than 15 seconds will fail to upload. If your imported video is less than 15 seconds to start with, Instagram will allow you to record another video for the rest of the 15 second duration.

You can apply filters to imported Instagram videos as usual, as well as change the cover frame. After applying your changes, you can add your own comment the video like usual before finally uploading the video to Instagram for your followers to see.

InstaChooser adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak on demand:

If you would like to give InstaChooser a try, it is available on Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99˘. The tweak currently supports the latest version of Instagram as of this writing.

Can you trim the video before uploading it?

I bought this as soon as I saw it the other day and it works great. it actually does let you go slightly over 15 seconds - I haven't tested it that thoroughly. But basically, it'll even let you make a 2 hour video if you want, but the problem is that the instagram servers make an upload fail if the file is above a certain size. And that could depend on so many things. So far I've managed to upload a 19 second video.

Anyway this is cool for those of you who had vine but were really more into instagram like me. now you can "import" your old vine videos. It's a dead service now for all intents and purposes with Instagram having video now.

There's no trimming (you can do this in your camera roll anyway) but you can put together selected clips.

If you'd like to see how some of the videos uploaded look in action, you can follow my account or just check it out. Some are from my camera roll, and one is something downloaded from youtube into my camera roll and imported from there, and even mixed with "native" instagram video footage. I think it should be fairly obvious which are which.

Downloaded this and have been making hilarious vids editing them first in iMovie and then importing to Instagram... I've had the other App Cinemagram for almost a year and though you can import videos from your Camera Roll, you only got 4 seconds to play with... This is obviously way better

I tried to use a screen capture tool (Cydia app) to record an animated GIF. Then try to post the screen capture video to Instagram using Instachooser. Instagram kept crashing.

A little update. I can download a youtube video with YourTube (cydia), save it to Photos, trim it with the Photos app, and then it will post in Instagram with Instachooser.
