Verizon is looking to regain some edge from competitors in the smartphone market with the launch of its new smartphone upgrade program conveniently called Verizon Edge.

As MMi's Akshay Masand correctly predicted in his coverage of the rumored program earlier this week, the largest U.S. carrier is introducing a plan that shortens the period customers have to wait between device upgrades.

And, yes, the program includes Apple's iPhone.

Verizon Edge also enables a no-contract payment plan that breaks up a smartphone’s initial cost into monthly installments. However, the arrangement still lets customers upgrade to a newer model after just one year.

Although Verizon is promoting the new program as something completely new for the carrier, it certainly isn't new to the industry as AT&T and T-Mobile already offer consumers incentives
similar to those found in the Verizon Edge program.

Sprint now exists as the only top U.S. carrier that is yet to roll out an early upgrade program.

I gotta look at their details. I'm just curious how much more they would like me to pay for the same crappy service.

All of these early upgrade deals are a rip off to the consumer. Your best option always is to sell your handset yourself and use the money made to buy a new phone.

I'm on AT&T and girlfriend has Verizon. Complete opposite. She has full bars in the forest as where I have no signal at all.

I guess Virginia is just a poor place for LTE. Sometimes I'll get what I would consider LTE speed (15mbps or so) but otherwise I average 0.5-1.0mbps download speed. Absolutely horrible.

Ps how do u post pics? I use the mobile app not the website and it never let's me

No this was while driving. I don't get LTE at my house. I have wifi at home so no LTE doesn't bother me.

Bright house has a residential plan that goes up to 80mbps. A rep was gonna let me try it for free for a week but I said no.

I don't even want to try it coz I know I wouldn't want to go back.
