It's not a common occurrence for a display-recording application to become available in Apple's iOS App Store. It has happened before, but it was pulled from the App Store very quickly after becoming available. iOS hacker and developer Ryan Petrich has a popular Display Recorder application in Cydia, but that requires you to have a jailbroken device and isn't an option for everyone.

Our friends at 9to5Mac have discovered another display-recording application in the App Store dubbed xRec. The application, by iOS developer Akın ğn, is available right now in the App Store for $1.99. If you'd like to grab it, we recommend grabbing it as soon as possible, because there's no telling how long it will be there.

The application offers a really flat interface with simple controls as you can see above. You’ll find a play button and a stop button. The play button initiates the recording, while the stop button stops the recording. At the bottom of the application you'll find tabs, such as the Videos tab that holds all of your video recordings that you can tap on to play:

xRec also offers a Settings tab where you can adjust a few options, such as the video scale, the video orientation, the sample rate, the audio channels, and whether or not you want to record audio with your screen recording:

The application doesn't fall short on design. The interface is surprisingly pleasant to use.

The application seems to run perfectly fine on our iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 both running iOS 6.1.2. A red recording bar will appear at the top of the display as your video is recorded. If you want to give the application a try, you can download the latest version of xRec from the App Store via this link.

Doesn't work on iOS 7.0b3. Records the initial app interface but as soon as you go out of the app, it's just a black screen. The audio records the whole time though. Probably an issue with the new multitasking of iOS 7.

The 'record audio' setting certainly concerns only the mic recording, not the system sounds, right *comparing with DisplayRecorder* ?

The numerous versions released, and infinite versatility, beats IconOmatic mods. By quality.

Correct it is recording from the microphone. Would be useful when demoing an app and providing narration. The first time launching the app on iOS 7 it ask for access to the microphone.

Ya i have the one from last year that was free and posted on here Display Recording Application Live In the App Store It's doing the same thing. Hit record but as soon as you move the screen from the app to record your screen? Just shows the app screen but you can still here audio. I dont want to take the chance and pay for this just to have Apple and yank it off and doesnt support iOS7 LOL

Can you save the video to your camera roll? Or only play it from the app?

Thanks for pointing that out. Seeing as though this will probably not get updated before it gets pulled.

You can save the video to the camera roll, email, mms, facebook... pretty much anything the would show up in the normal photos app for opening in another app like dropbox or google drive. On iOS 7 you can send it via AirDrop as well from the app.

    What?

So pretty much this app is a copy of the RecordMyScreen app from Cydia, because it has a pretty similar interface and pretty much works the same. The dev probably took the source code from RecordMyScreen and tweaked the interface, and called it his own, and somehow got it into the app store. This is what i think.

it's nice, but i'll stick with Display recorder for J/B iPhones, cause I activate it via double tapping my Home Button.

it is RecordMyScreen, same code base (except the iPad code for some reason, we haven't bothered to get the Mini supported yet and I guess neither was this guy) Either way this dev is infringing on coolstar's licensed code from github
Get the latest info for NoAccSplash Here
Currently it should work on iOS 4.x - 6.x
If you'd like to help extend its functionality, the source is also available.

Did anyone do a search before posting this thread? There are a few display recorders out there and the one above has been there since January.
