More than likely, you’ve tried entering your passcode on your lock screen and you’ve experienced someone looking over your shoulder to try and see what your passcode is. Not only is this irritating, but it poses a security risk, as it’s very simple for someone to watch where you tap on your display and figure out what your passcode is.

Usually when someone is looking over your shoulder, they aren’t looking at the actual numbers you’re pressing (the font is pretty small and hard to see from that distance). Instead, they’re looking at where on the grid of numbers you’re tapping. It’s more of pattern recognition than number spying. Because of this, you can prevent these sly peepers from seeing your true passcode with a new jailbreak tweak dubbed CodeScrambler by iOS developer Jordan Koch.

As shown above, CodeScrambler scrambles the Passcode numbers on the lock screen every time you go to unlock your iOS device. This makes it so that the numbers are never in the same position. In this case, if someone sees you tap on the top three numbers on the lock screen and then the number at the bottom, and they try to enter it later on, they'll find that the numbers aren't the same and that the passcode they've tried entering based on pattern recognition is incorrect.

Now obviously, someone that’s really trying hard to pay attention to the little numbers on each key can still see what your passcode is, but because everyone is so used to seeing iPhone passcode screens look like any other number pad, they probably won’t even think twice about a jailbreak tweak like this. CodeScrambler also makes it harder for these people to see the numbers by making the numbers on each key really small compared to Apple's stock font size.

It’s a good level of security that may one day save you. CodeScrambler doesn't have any options to configure and if you'd like to give it a try, you can download it for 99 from Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak is compatible with both iOS 5 and iOS 6.

I don't see the point of these security tweaks. All it takes is booting to safemode and all your extra security tweaks are gone.

Once to 7.0 that will change I thought. And this tweak wouldn't be bad because if a person is just watching you type code from distance then they will think it is the normal numbers locations.
