Cut the Rope is a very popular game for iOS where your job is to feed Om Nom, the green creature with a craving for candy, by solving the puzzle created by strings that you need to cut. By cutting the strings, the candy holding onto the strings should drop right into Om Nom's mouth, unless you try to solve the puzzle incorrectly, that is.

ZeptoLab, the makers of the game, have announced that a sequel to the game known as Cut the Rope 2 is set to release to the public before the end of 2013, or this year.

Citing TUAW, the company also shared some interesting statistics in that multiple versions of Cut the Rope have been downloaded more than 400,000,000 times globally and that Cut the Rope addicts are currently cutting more than 42,000 ropes per minute trying to get through the challenging puzzles of the game.

Being that Cut the Rope was a huge hit, we expect nothing less from Cut the Rope 2. It will offer a number of all new levels, characters, and new tactics.

Do these type of "games" really need sequels?
