If you’re looking to add a little personalization and detail to your iOS 6 device, one way you can achieve this is through the use of a new jailbreak tweak called PaperBoard by iOS developer wesley6j.

As shown above, PaperBoard will let you place a detailed overlay over any iOS application that you want, with the exception of some. Above, we applied a grainy paper effect to the Settings application to give it more of a lively appearance.

After installing the tweak, you will find a new preferences pane in the Settings application where you can configure an Activator Action to bring up the tweak's settings panel in the application you want to apply an overlay to:

Once set, you can head over to an application that you want to apply an overlay to, perform the Activator action that you set, and you'll get the following settings panel:

From here, you can use the top On/Off switch to enable or disable the tweak on demand. You can also use the buttons below this switch to choose the source of your overlay. The tweak comes with some built-in textures, which are accessed via the house button, but you can also use the image button to pick a background from your Camera Roll that you want to overlay an application with.

Tapping on the brightness button will bring up a brightness slider that you can use to adjust the brightness of your overlay, tapping on the contrast button will bring up a contrast slider that you can use to adjust the contrast of your overlay, and tapping on the saturation button will bring up a saturation slider that you can use to adjust the contrast of your overlay.

Using the top two buttons in the settings panel to either close the panel or save your changes.

Some of the tweak's built-in textures are shown in the screenshot below:

You can apply different textures to different applications and your settings will be saved individually for each application. This means you have all different-styled applications on your iOS device and you don't have to go with the same boring texture for all of them, which offers a ton of flexibility for the end user. If you can't find a good wallpaper, or the built-in textures aren't good enough for you, the developer notes that PaperBoard is theme-ready and developers can create their own themes to work with the tweak.

When it comes right down to it, the interface isn't very pretty, but it sure does get the job done of putting a cool-looking texture over your applications. If you would like to give PaperBoard a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $2.00.
