    On Tuesday, Apple announced that 2013 was a very successful year for the App Store, the Cupertino-based company's digital content store for iOS devices and Macs that allows developers to sell their work to the users of these devices.

    Apple announced that in 2013, the company made over $10 billion in digital content sales through the App Store, and that in the month of December alone – the holiday season, where iTunes gift cards were popular stocking stuffers – Apple made $1 billion through digital content sales.

    CUPERTINO, California―January 7, 2014―Apple® today announced that customers spent over $10 billion on the App Store℠ in 2013, including over $1 billion in December alone. App Store customers downloaded almost three billion apps in December making it the most successful month in App Store history. Apple’s incredible developers have now earned $15 billion on the App Store.

    “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”
    December is recognized as the most successful month in the history of Apple's App Store, where just about three billion applications were downloaded by ecstatic iOS device users. The company also notes that developers hosting their applications in the App store have earned over $15 billion using the App Store as a sales front.
